Man Uses Pokemon Go Alibi To Defend Himself in Kidnapping Case

A young Oregon man arrested on attempting kidnapping charges is using the Pokemon GO defense in court, but will it be super effective?

27-year-old Robert Friesen was arrested earlier this month in Beaverton, Oregon, according to KPTV. On Wednesday, he was arraigned in court after being accused of grabbing a 16-year-old girl off the street and threatening her with a knife.

"He tried grabbing me really tight from my shoulder, in the other hand there was a knife," the victimized girl, whose name was not released, told KOIN 6 News after the kidnap attempt.

"He was trying to drag me into his car," the girl said. "He told me he was going to kill me…I was really scared."

Speaking to investigators, Friesen said that his grandmother lives in the area and he was there "Pokemon hunting" when he allegedly attempted to kidnap the girl.

According to a probable cause affidavit he reportedly drove to his grandmother's house to move a mattress.

After he was arrested, officers examined Friesen's phone and confirmed that he had "captured Pokemon" on June 6 and June 8 — but not June 7.

He was probably inspired by Team Rocket, but I hope he's the one who ends up being captured for jail.

Friesen is currently out on bail and due back in court on October 20.
