Magic: The Gathering's 1996 World Champion Card Art Will Be Auctioned Off

On Monday, the one-of-a-kind 1996 World Champion Magic: The Gathering card was listed on eBay but the sale has already been taken down for unknown reasons. The card was given out to the winner of Worlds in 1996. According to Wizards of the Coast, all the copies of it, and the printing plates, were ceremonially destroyed. Australia's Tom Chanpheng won that tournament.

Now, the card's art illustrated by Christopher Rush will be auctioned off. The news came from Casey Petrillo who posted it on the MTG Art Market Group on Facebook. "I will be helping Sierra Troi Rush auction off the 1996 World Champion card art," she wrote."Here are a couple of teaser pics. We will get measurement pictures before the auction date. Any questions, feel free to post or PM me directly."

This is a beautiful piece of MTG art history, and Christopher Rush is one of the greatest MTG artists, so it's cool seeing this art get the attention it deserves, and I hope that someone would actually make a playmat featuring this fantastic art.
