Magic: The Gathering Finally Meets Dungeons & Dragons For The Ultimate Fantasy RPG

Both Dungeons & Dragons and Magic: The Gathering have shared stories about alternate planes of reality and Multiverses, but they've never used that aspect to link two of the most iconic fantasy games into one space. Until now, that is, thanks to the release of a free D&D sourcebook to plan out your adventures in one of Magic's many planes.

Wizards of the Coast announced Plane Shift: Zendikar, a 38-page D&D Fifth Edition sourcebook for running campaigns in the Magic: The Gathering world of Zendikar, and it's available as a free digital download. The sourcebook was released to promote the new Magic art book based on Zendikar, called The Art of Magic: The Gathering—Zendikar. Zendikar is on of the elemental planes of existance in the Magic Multiverse, and it has been the focus of several card sets and board games.

While the book includes guidance and rules for running a D&D game in the world of Zendikar, it doesn't emulate the mechanics of Magic itself —your spell casters are not required to tap different colored elements of magic or "mana" to cast spells like players tap Land cards in Magic. The rules is the same as any D&D campaign.

Hopefully, we'll see more blending of the two universes in the future. It would be cool to see a D&D-themed Magic: The Gathering set.
