Mads Mikkelsen Auditioned For Fantastic Four... But He Walked Out

Mads Mikkelsen is probably getting more attention now than he was back in 2015, what with roles in Rogue One, Doctor Strange, and Death Stranding. As it turns out, he auditioned for a role in Josh Trank's Fantastic Four reboot… and he walked out of the audition.

In an interview with ShortList, Mikkelsen admitted:

I think I walked out on the Fantastic Four [audition]. I think I actually said, "I can't do it. It's not about you, I'm sorry, this is wrong." I've had tons of them. We've all been there. We all show up and it's a little office room with a desk and some books and they want you to do a scene where you have two lines – maybe not even two lines – maybe just "Bleurgh!" or "Get back!" And you're hiding behind a palm tree that's not there. It's like, "Guys, couldn't you have picked a different kind of scene to this? This is [frick]ing mad." You feel like an idiot.

The main question is who Mikkelsen was auditioning for. Given how awesome he is in villain roles, my money is on him auditioning for Victor Von Doom a.k.a. Doctor Doom. He certainly has the presence for the role, and he also has that European accent down — perfect for the ruler of Latveria.

Then again, the guy who eventually got cast as Doom was a bit younger, and I imagine it would be weird to have an older Mikkelsen walking around the Negative Zone with a bunch of kids. Perhaps he was auditioning for Mole Man? The character was in the original script. Maybe Mole Man's lines were so ridiculous that Mikkelsen eventually walked out.

Well, it was a bullet well dodged, and Mikkelsen has been slowly climbing the celebrity A-List ever since. If they do reboot the Fantastic Four again, I hope Mikkelsen is the first choice for Doom. I mean, he's just perfect for it.
