Oct 21, 2015 - The day Back to the Future fans have been waiting for since the '80's; it's the day Doc & Marty arrived to a "future" with power-lacing shoes, hoverboards, and flying cars, and although we have some of them being developed currently, the 2015 we have now is way different from the sci-fi film imagined. But at least, fans around New York City will have a chance to ride a DeLorean.

The the ride-hailing Lyft is offering free DeLorean rides for passengers in New York City in honor of classic '80's trilogy of films.

The company, who teamed up with Verizon for the promotion, is allowing passengers a free ride for up to 15 minutes. Riders who select "McFly Mode" on the Lyft mobile app between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Wednesday have a chance to be picked up by a DeLorean car.

"We want to give our customers access to exclusive and unexpected experiences, cool apps and new technology," Melissa Garlick, senior vice president of brand creative marketing for Verizon, said in a statement.

Lyft didn't reveal the specific number of DeLoreans that will be available for passengers, but the company is shipping in vehicles from all over the country for the celebration.

Passengers will be matched with DeLoreans based on availability and proximity, just like any other Lyft requests.
