Lucasfilm Said to be Working on 9 Star Wars Films; Yoda Movie Not Happening

Though Solo: A Star Wars Story may have struggled in the box office, that doesn't mean that Lucasfilm has put a hold on their other upcoming projects. As of now, all of Lucasfilm's projects are still a go, and it looks like their plates are looking pretty full.

As per Clone Wars actor Tom Kane at the All-Star Comic-Con (via Aaron Goins), Lucasfilm is currently working on 9 Star Wars movies. Here's the scoop:

If we do a breakdown, nine movies definitely sounds like the right number for Lucasfilm's announced projects. Let's see:

  • Rian Johnson's Trilogy (3 films)
  • David Beniof and D.B. Weiss' series of films (possibly 3 films)
  • Obi-Wan Kenobi movie (still unannounced, but very likely)
  • Boba Fett movie (directed by James Mangold)
  • Star Wars Episode IX (directed by J.J. Abrams)

… all in all totaling 9 films.

That's not even counting the TV ventures that Lucasfilm has planned as well. This year will see the debut of anime-inspired Star Wars Resistance from Dave Filoni as well as a live-action Star Wars series created by Jon Favreau.

On the topic of a Yoda film, I understand Han Solo getting his own movie, but I don't think anyone wants to see a whole standalone of a young Jedi Yoda. If I were to see a young Yoda though, I would rather have him as part of an ensemble, maybe in a movie set hundreds of years before the prequels. He could be a Chirrut Imwe type; what if did some pirating along with a young Maz Kanata?

The next Star Wars film to come out will be Star Wars Episode IX on Dec. 20, 2019.
