Lucasfilm Responds To The Alleged Bothan In The Last Jedi’s Canto Bight

Vanity Fair just recently wrote a substantial cover story on Star Wars: The Last Jedi for its 40thStar Wars anniversary issue and with the piece came a slew of new photos from the production of Lucasfilm's highly anticipated sequel to The Force Awakens.

One of those photos confirms the rumored planet of Canto Bight, a luxurious casino planet with scenes meant to have the same light-hearted atmosphere as the Cantina sequence in the original 1977 Star Wars movie, A New Hope. In the image is a mix of high-class humans and aliens, one of which has caught the attention of a few fans hoping to finally see a Bothan on the big screen.

With Bothans resembling werewolves, the tallest creature in the new Canto Bight Image has gotten fans talking, however Lucasfilm Story Group member Pablo Hidalgo has shut down hopes of finally seeing the creature on the big screen by changing his name on Twitter.

Bothans were once mentioned in Return of the Jedi when Mon Mothma told the Rebels that "Many Bothans died" to bring intelligence on the location of Emperor Palpatine on the Death Star II during the Battle of Endor, however they've never appeared anywhere in the Star Wars franchise aside from the books. It's such a shame that fans still won't get to see their first Bothan in Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi premieres on December 15, 2017.
