Lucasfilm Puts All Star Wars Spinoffs On Hold

Though Solo: A Star Wars Story didn't perform as expected, Lucasfilm was still said to be moving forward with more Star Wars spinoffs down the line. However, it looks like we have to wait longer for those Boba Fett and Kenobi movies as news has it that development for those films have been put on hold.

According to Collider, Lucasfilm has decided to put all of its focus on the trilogy that will come out after Star Wars Episode IX. That could mean either Rian Johnson's announced trilogy or the series of films that are being developed by Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.

The good news is the anthology movies have not been announced as "cancelled." We could still get the spinoff movies that were originally announced, but it just means we have to wait a bit longer for them.

Though you could say that Lucasfilm is acting a bit rash on cancelling anthology movies after the failure of just the second one, it's worth noting that Rogue One also had some issues with production, and Tony Gilroy was asked to come in last minute to fix the final act of the film. Everyone knows about the original directors of Solo getting fired as well.

As a fan of Solo, I'm hoping that Lucasfilm gets back to work on the anthology movies again soon. I really liked the idea of scaling down on the stories. The problem with Solo was just the poor marketing and the May release which put it against films like Avengers: Infinity War and Deadpool 2.

As of now, all Star Wars anthology films have been put on hold and have no release date.
