For more than a decade, we've heard rumors about a possible live-action Star Wars TV show. George Lucas developed a series called Star Wars: Underworld, but was ultimately cancelled, prior to the Star Wars creator selling Lucasfilm to Disney, and ever since the company took over, there has been talks that Underworld, or any live-action Star Wars TV series, could finally make it to the small screen. Now, it sounds like a new series is actually coming!
As EW reports: At the Television Critics Association semi-annual press tour, the ABC network's entertainment president Channing Dungey was asked about the possibility of a new primetime Star Wars television series. Dungey didn't just express interest in that idea, but also confirmed that negotiations regarding the new series are happeing. Here's what she said:
"Oh, as a fan, I would absolutely love to say ‘Yes'... The conversations with Lucas, we have had conversations with them and will continue to have conversations with them. I think it would be wonderful if we could find a way to extend that brand into our programming."
She also confirms that talks between ABC and Lucasfilm are "ongoing" and that an official timeline has not yet been made. Dungey did't say if the proposed series will be live-action.
It sounds like we're finally going to see live-action Star Wars storytelling make its way to television.
Back in April, IGN shared a fake trailer of a Netflix Star Wars TV series as an April Fool's joke. You can check it out below:
