Listen To Star Trek Discovery’s New (Yet Familiar) Opening Theme

With Star Trek coming back to the small screen with Star Trek: Discovery, a lot of people are excited (and anxious) for the show's debut later this month. CBS has released a video revealing the new opening for the show, and a lot of longtime Trekkies will notice that it takes cues from the original Trek opening title.

The original video was posted up on Youtube, but it looks unavailable for now, so I'll just embed the video uploaded by ScreenRant:

Jeff Russo, the composer for the theme, explains that he wanted the new theme to move in-and-out of the original opening and new music. That makes a lot of sense since Discovery is mainly a prequel to the Original Series, and it would probably build up into the timeline where Spock and Kirk are the main players.

The main character of the series is said to be Commander Michael Burnham who is played by Sonequa Martin-Green. Her character will be the first non-captain to helm the show, and it's also been revealed that she is the half-sister of Spock, whom she shares a father with.

Star Trek: Discovery airs on CBS on Sept. 24.
