Lin-Manuel Miranda to Produce Film and TV Adaptations of Patrick Rothfuss' The Kingkiller Chronicle

Lionsgate has announced on Tuesday that Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda will serve as creative producer for the film and TV series adaptation of Patrick Rothfuss' epic fantasy trilogy The Kingkiller Chronicle,The Wrap reports.

Lionsgate acquired the rights to Kingkiller Chronicle about a year ago, but just announced Miranda's role today. Erik Feig, Co-President, Lionsgate Motion Picture Group said this statement:

"The best way to service Pat Rothfuss' unique and ambitious view was to invent a new way of adapting it with Lionsgate's film and television teams working side-by-side, which meant that only a multi-hyphenate talent like Lin-Manuel Miranda could do the job. Lin is an incomparable talent and a huge fan of the trilogy and, working closely with Pat, his creative oversight of the franchise will bring an incredible level of detail and continuity to all of the projects."

Miranda told Variety:

Pat Rothfuss' Kingkiller books are among the most read and re-read in our home. It's a world you want to spend lifetimes in, as his many fans will attest. Pat also writes about the act of making music more beautifully than any novelist I've ever read. I can't wait to play a part in bringing this world to life onscreen.

Miranda also tweeted his excitement:

Rothfuss hasn't commented about the news, but he did congratulate Miranda after seeing his latest movie, Disney's Moana.

Miranda has plans to compose original music and song for the films and TV series, and he also wants to be involved in future stage productions.

The deal with Lionsgate will allow the studio to adapt The Name of the Wind, The Wise Man's Fear and various novellas (including The Slow Regard of Silent Things.). The upcoming third novel The Doors of Stone will most likely be adapted as well, but no release date has been announced for the book yet.
