Game of Thrones season 6 will be out in a few weeks, and with that comes several bits and pieces of info about what's going down in the upcoming season from cast interviews. Probably one interview that fans are interested in looking at is of Liam Cunningham, who plays Davos Seaworth in the Emmy Award-winning series.
Ser Davos was pitted in the middle of the narrative when season 5 ended. The beloved character could now be in danger that the Night's Watch has killed off their Lord Commander Jon Snow. One of the characters he cares about most in the series – Shireen – has also been killed by the Red Priestess Melisandre, and he doesn't even know it.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the 54-year-old actor shared how Ser Davos' story will unfold in the highly anticipated season.
He said:
The Twittersphere went mad last year. There were also a couple complaints too – like, ‘Why did you f–king leave [Shireen]?'
There's now a big expectation about him finding out. I think Davos absolutely needs to find out what happened.
Cunningham added of his character:
He's not a born leader of men, but a go-to guy if there's confusion or something sticking in your mind that can't be sorted. He's a very good man to get an opinion from, and he won't B.S. you. As he says to Stannis, he will ‘tell the hard truths.'
He's one of the few in the show who are not self-serving and finding themselves in trouble because of their ambitions.
Because Ser Davos is unlike the other characters in Game of Thrones who are too ambitious, he has been out of trouble from the ire of those who want to rule the seven kingdoms. However, it doesn't necessarily mean he will be safe from death entirely in season 6. Since his former Lord Stannis Baratheon is dead, things could very well change. The actor exclaimed:
I made it out of there by the skin of my teeth. The gods of HBO and George R.R. Martin are looking down upon me …
Cunningham also left an exciting prospect for Game of Thrones fans to ponder on:
This season's cool because it resets the chess board and people get partnered with new people.
Last year it was ‘worlds colliding.' This year, it's almost like you're in a different drama series. There are new plans – and they're enormous plans. There are new loyalties. There are new tensions. There are tensions between people where there were not tensions before.
The words on the page are as delicious as what we've had in the past. And it's culminating in some of the most remarkable television that's ever been made. It's astonishing.
I don't even know how to express my feelings right now except that I'm extremely thrilled to see what will go down on season 6.
New plans, new loyalties, new partnerships, new tensions – season 6 is going to be awesome AF!
I have a feeling the small players, like Sansa and Sam, who have been completely powerless in past seasons, will be the big players this time around.
