Lego Movie 2 Trailer Reveals What Happened After Taco Tuesday

Warner Bros. has released the first trailer of The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part and it looks to be a fun romp, even if our characters have had it hard. Wyldstyle reveals it's been five years since the events of Taco Tuesday when Emmett saved the world, only for their world to descend to chaos after the invasion of the toys seen at the end of the first film.

The world has gone full Mad Max, though Emmett is still wearing his old construction worker outfit and continues to be optimistic about everything. That is until a new threat emerges from the invading Lego DUPLO figures, who kidnap Wyldstyle/Lucy, Lego Batman, Unikitty - who now has a permanent angry red face - and more.

Despite having a different director, it's clear that the influence of Chris Miller and Phil Lord can still be felt, given how snappy the dialogue is. If the movie can balance heart and comedy well like the first did, whilst expanding the Lego mythos, this could be a worthwhile follow-up.

Fans of all ages loved the first Lego Movie, which had a surprisingly real message underneath all of the comedy. Add the brilliant animation that made sure everything was lego and it's easy to see why it was such a hit, even if it didn't seem like one at first glance. Let's hope the sequel lives up to expectations.

The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part hits theaters in February 2019.
