Laura Kinney Is X-23 Again For Marvel's Fresh Start

With the original Wolverine back in the Marvel universe, it was only a matter of time for Laura to give the mantle back to her dad. That has now happened, as Marvel has revealed that Laura will become X-23 again as part of the Fresh Start relaunch this July. Mariko Tamaki of She-Hulk fame will write the series while All-New Wolverine's Juann Cabal will stay on as the artist.

The New X-23 series comes out in July and will have a focus on legacy and family, which were similar themes Tom Taylor took on when he wrote the character as Wolverine. It's not yet clear if Honey Badger will be a part of the series, though Tamaki has expressed excitement for Laura's new supporting cast.

"This is a story about being in the very weird kind of family that someone like Laura/X-23 finds herself in. It's about what it means to wrestle with legacy and identity when you were created to be a weapon and not someone with a birthday and a sister. I love writing these characters, I love the ferocity that comes with them, and I love the supporting cast we've put together for these issues."

Fans of Tom Taylor's version of Laura shouldn't worry, since the writer will continue using her in the pages of X-Men Red, along with Honey Badger. Tamaki and Cabal's X-23 doesn't sound too different from All-New Wolverine, to be honest, but considering how good the writer's work in She-Hulk was, this should still be worth reading.
