King Kong vs. Godzilla Planned as Skull Island Moves To Warner Bros.

We got some big news as Deadline reports that Legendary's upcoming Kong: Skull Island has moved from Universal to Warner Bros, and that's because Legendary wants to develop a new King Kong vs. Godzilla film and are doing whatever it takes to keep the big project under the same distributor. Skull Island is still set to be released on March 10, 2017 with a sequel to Gareth Edwards' Godzilla scheduled to be released on June 8, 2018. Then both beasts will go head-to-head in an as-of-yet untitled King Kong vs. Godzilla movie.

This isn't the first time we'll see these monsters clash. 1962's King Kong vs. Godzilla marked the third Godzilla feature. In that movie, the size of both creatures were adjusted to even the odds, but Godzilla is usually much larger than Kong. They might as well bring the Jaegers and Kaijus from Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim.

Edwards will return to direct the Godzilla sequel, and it's being scripted by Max Borenstein. It was hinted that some other popular Kaiju, such as King Ghidorah, Mothra, or Rodan might appear in the film, but none have been confirmed at this time.

Kong: Skull Island is being directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts from a script by John Gatins and Max Borenstein. The film will feature a team of explorers venture into the treacherous island.
