Kevin Smith’s Supergirl Episode Will Fit in With the Show

Supergirl is one of the hot franchises on DC TV alongside The Flash, Arrow, and DC Legends of Tomorrow. The crossovers among the series alone is enough to show that DC TV has founds its groove and a force to be reckoned with.

That's why guest directors can be a tricky approach, though according to Kevin Smith, he already has a plan to make sure that his work in Supergirl will be a seamless weave into the entire series.

In an interview with IGN, Smith revealed that the Supergirl Lives episode will feature not just only action and a good deal of dialogue, but it will also factor into the overall flow of the story.

"Supergirl is a feminist icon, and to be able to come play with that character and not get it dirty or make it stupid and male and let it be what it is and do an episode that feels like that show… I want to go in there and color within the lines, you know? I want to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with strong episodes that I've come to love and made me show up in the first place."

Smith reiterates that, instead of bringing his trademark voice, he'd rather tell a story that will not feel disjointed with the rest of the episodes.

To be able to do this well, Smith says he has his days directing The Flash to thank. The two episodes that was under his wing in The Flash had both moments of long dialogues with no special effects and an action- and effects-heavy one with Killer Frost in it.

"Supergirl is way more complex. The moment she's in that suit, almost anything she does is a special effect, whether she breathes, whether she looks at something, whether she leaves the room, there's a special effect involved."

Of course, even though Smith promised to stick to a good flow for the entire series, there will still be little surprises for fans, but small enough so it won't disrupt with the overall experience. There's a little Easter egg placed somewhere in reference to Thanagar, but even if you don't get the little joke, you don't have to get frustrated either.

Supergirl will be back on The CW on Jan. 23.
