Kevin Feige: Some People Have Correctly Guessed Why Captain Marvel’s Costume is Green in Set Photos

Captain Marvel has finally started production, and some set photos of Brie Larson in costume have her wearing a green suit instead of the trademark blue and red—leading to a lot of fan complaints and discussion. Marvel head Kevin Feige comments on the leak and says that some fans have already guessed correctly on why the suit is green.

Talking to Vulture, Feige explains:

"We released some concept art of her with different colors… People online have correctly identified what's going on there."

One of the more popular guesses is that the suit that Danvers is wearing is a proto-suit that harkens back to the original Captain Marvel, and she'll get an updated blue/red one later in the movie. My personal theory was that the green was supposed to stand-in for some CGI, and that the blue/red colors will have more of a "cosmic" effect onscreen.

You'd think that Marvel would reveal some official photos before set pictures leaked online. Feige comments:

"If you want to film out in public — and Captain Marvel has a lot of scenes that will be shot on location — it's gonna happen. Everything is filmed [by paparazzi] nowadays, so years ago, we decided, ‘If it's gonna happen, let it happen.' Most people are savvy enough to know they're looking at a behind-the-scenes photo, completely out of context. So we don't do things like rush photos."

Deadpool 2 was wise enough to release official pictures of Cable before he was spotted in set photos, and I thought this was a better move for the film. I'd rather I got to see Captain Marvel wearing her proper gear first as compared to getting our first look with some blurry set pics.

Captain Marvel comes out March 8, 2019.
