Ken Watanabe Gets Cast In Detective Pikachu Movie

As weird as the Detective Pikachu movie sounds, the film has actually gathered an impressive cast what with Kathryn Newton, Justice Smith, and Ryan Reynolds voicing the main character. Now a new veteran actor has joined the film in the form of Ken Watanabe.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Watanabe will be joining the cast as Detective Yoshida, a character created specifically for the movie. I have complete confidence that Watanabe can pull it off, I'm just curious how an actor of his esteem will fair in what I assume is a kid's movie.

Then again, you have Nicole Perlman and Alex Hirsch working on the script; Perlman being behind the script for Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy and Captain Marvel, Hirsch being the creator of the wonderful Disney Channel series, Gravity Falls. I'm sure the film could come out as enjoyable for both kids and adults.

For now, everyone is curious about how this Detective Pikachu film is going to turn out. It has a solid cast and solid writers. I'd say director Rob Letterman has enough experience with his resume of movies, but I don't have any particular favorites when it comes to his work.

Detective Pikachu is set for a release on May 10, 2019.
