Karen Gillan Talks Nebula’s Look and Backstory in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

Guardians of the Galaxy's Karen Gillan is back to play Nebula in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and it looks like the actress has decided to shave off only half of her head for the role.

In an interview with The Wrap, Gillan reveals that Marvel has finally allowed the Doctor Who actress to keep a bit of her for role as Nebula in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. In the original 2014 film, the Scottish actress had been made to shave off all the hair on her head – one of her most recognizable features.

"I shaved half of my head this time, but they took away the butt — like, the underneath-half of my hair, and then left the top part. That was the best gift ever," Gillan said, relieved.

The Guardians of the GalaxyVol. 2 star also decided to talk more about the current state of her character, revealing that fans might actually get to sympathize Nebula more in the Guardians of the Galaxy sequel.

"What I love about the second movie for Nebula in particular is that we get — We know that she's a pretty angry woman with some daddy issues. [But] in the second movie, we're going to start to see how much pain her father actually caused her, and we're going to delve right into the relationship with her sister Gamora," the actress explained in the interview.

"I think we might even feel a tinge of sympathy towards Nebula this time, because we really start to see the emotional crack in her character," she added. "I was just allowed to completely explore that and take it to a completely different dimension with her. I was really happy about that."

This is good news for Nebula, since many remember her for violent tendencies and her aggressive character. With a deeper background, we'll finally see a more fleshed out character, helping us understand Nebula's motivations.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is slated for release on the big screen on May 5 this year.
