Maz Kanata (Lupita Nyong'o) might have called Chewie her boyfriend in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but that doesn't mean that the Force-sensitive humanoid female hasn't had flings of her own.
Fans had the sense that Maz had other romances too after watching Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Maz only had a brief cameo in the film, but in the scene where she sends Finn (John Boyega) and Rose (Kelly Marie Tran) off to the swanky planet Canto Bight to search for the "Master Codebreaker," viewers get the feeling the alien had a special relationship with the man.
Now, in an interview with Yahoo, "Master Codebreaker" actor Justin Theroux confirms their suspicions, saying that yes, he and Maz actually had a relationship.
"I can definitely confirm it. That happened --- she's a bobcat!" Theroux says playfully.
Though we're not certain whether Theroux's confirmation is canon or whether the actor's just playing around with the publication during the interview, it's interesting to think that Maz has actually had a string of suitors before Chewie. We wonder whether we'll finally get to learn more about Maz and her different relationships (with Chewie and with the Codebreaker) in Star Wars: Episode IX.
