Justice League’s J.K. Simmons Talks Gordon’s Role & Snyder’s Directing

Justice League is rolling nicely. And while the main cast has taken the center stage, let's not forget that there will be some other badass characters that we can expect.

One of them is J.K. Simmons, who will be portraying Commissioner Gordon. From the looks of it, we shouldn't expect a fully rational, mild-mannered Jim Gordon. If J.K. Simmons' imposing looks and eyebrows are anything to go by, he'll be a more brusque and battle-hardened Gordon—perhaps a lot like Gotham's own Gordon, played by Ben McKenzie.

In a recent interview with ET Online, Simmons shared that his parts in the movie have already been filmed. In fact, he's already back home with his family. But the same can't be said for the other cast members, since it seems like the shooting for the film will continue well into 2016.

As far as his role as Commissioner Gordon is concerned, Simmons did state that his part isn't that big, as it will be mostly introductions.

"In this first installment of the Justice League, Commissioner Gordon is not a particularly sizable part. We just kind of introduce him and see a little bit of his interactions with Batman—and with most of the Justice League."

This is understandable, considering that Batman is not the only focus of the superhero blockbuster. But I guess this is a nice touch, especially if we're looking at a Batman solo movie with Gordon in it.

For the most part, a lacking aspect in Batman v Superman is the introduction of Batman's story and role in the whole thing. So maybe this is one way of weaving his backdrop as the Caped Crusader through the eyes of Gordon.

Even with just a small part, Simmons did commend director Zack Snyder's way of setting up the cast and the tone of the production.

"Zack runs sort of a big, happy family and it's obviously, in many ways a very different work environment when you're working on a big, giant movie… but at the end of the day, the director is the one who sets the tone. And one of the things that Zack and Lorene [Scafaria] have in common is that they're just nice, smart, competent, fun people that you don't mind spending a 12-hour day with."

Justice League is slated to come out in 2017.
