Justice League Underperforms At US Box Office During Its Opening Weekend

DC fans might have expected a lot from Justice League after the overwhelming success of Patty Jenkin's Wonder Woman, however, the superhero team-up movie has seemingly underperformed at the American box office during its opening weekend.

According to the Independent, Justice League's opening weekend domestic box office numbers have come up to a scrawny $96 million, a whole lot below the $110 to $120 million weekend opening that analysts predicted for the latest DCEU installment.

Though it might not seem like much of a let-down, Justice League's domestic opening weekend has been the lowest debut in Warner Bros. burgeoning superhero franchise. Batman v Superman opened with $166 million despite the mixed reception, and Wonder Woman opened at $103.3 million. Comparing it with other Marvel team-up movies like Avengers' $203 million opening back in 2012 and Avengers: Age of Ultron's $191.3 million in 2015, Justice League's domestic number is just depressing.

Though a number of fans admit to enjoying Justice League in spite of its flaws, it seems like the film's less than stellar critic reviews have affected the film's domestic performance.

Luckily it seems like the movie is doing pretty well overseas, opening with $181 million. The only question now is whether Justice League's box office performance might turn around as the film continues its theatrical run.

Justice League is currently screening in cinemas.
