Justice League Producer Says Film Isn’t A Comedy

Warner Bros. might be promising a lighter-hearted DC Extended Universe installment in Justice League, but producer Charles Roven wants to remind viewers that the upcoming superhero team-up movie isn't in the least bit a comedy movie.

Though the studio had a bit of trouble starting the engine on the DCEU after Batman v Superman ended up with divisive reviews and Suicide Squad ended up a flop, fans think that the franchise's tendency to go down a darker, grittier route helps distinguish it from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Speaking with Newsday, Roven decided to address fans' concerns, saying that while Justice League will definitely be lighter compared to Batman V Superman, Zack Snyder's latest entry would keep the filmmaker's sensibilities.

"I really don't know how to break down the scenes that [Joss] wrote with Zack versus the scenes that he wrote later. If you take Man of Steel, Batman V Superman and Justice League as a trilogy — they were all directed by Zack, with the third one having some influence by Joss — I would say this is the lightest of the three. That doesn't mean it's a comedy!"

It's good that Warner Bros. decided against overhauling Justice League. Comedy might be working for the MCU, but the DCEU has to differentiate itself and so far it's been doing good with Wonder Woman.

Justice League hits cinemas next week on November 17, 2017.
