Baby Yoda has stolen the spotlight in The Mandalorian and has captured the hearts of thousands of Star Wars fans. But it seems like no one could match Werner Herzog's love for the surprise character.

Despite being the antagonist of the show, in real life, Herzog really does adore the baby. In fact, in a recent report from Vanity Fair, director Dave Filoni revealed that Herzog acted with "contempt" on set upon learning that the Baby Yoda puppet was nearly replaced with CGI.

Filoni recalled the time wherein the crew got ready to do another take without the puppet. This was done just in case they decided that the puppet "wasn't convincing enough" so they could use a digital version during postproduction. When Herzog knew about this, he declared, "You are cowards." And told the directors and crew to just "leave it."

Deborah Chow, who directed the third episode, also recalled an encounter with Herzog and the puppet. She revealed that while she was directing Herzog with the puppet, the actor has "fallen in love with the baby." Chow thinks Herzog has "forgotten" that Baby Yoda wasn't actually a "live creature" and the actor even "sort of" started directing the baby.

This isn't something new for the fans since Herzog has stated his love for the baby in a previous interview with Variety. The actor claimed Baby Yoda was "heartbreakingly beautiful." He doesn't even know why he thinks so, but Herzog said the puppet looked "absolutely convincing" on set. "It made you cry when you saw it," he added.
