The Rise of Skywalker Star John Boyega Says Star Wars Fandom Division is the 'Most Stupid Thing in the World'

It's no secret that the Star Wars franchise has one of the biggest fandoms in the world. And while everyone has their own opinion and preferences, this could cause some conflicts among the fans despite, basically, being under one umbrella. Fandom conflicts are apparent, and even The Rise of Skywalker star John Boyega isn't fond of it happening.

In a recent interview with Variety, the actor was asked how he "navigates" the fans' expectations, especially since his character Finn is often shipped with Oscar Isaac's Poe Dameron. "Navigating that for me has been interesting," he said.

He "loves" all of Star Wars, which is why he sees it as a "hub for imagination" and an "opportunity" for fans to "expand of the characters how you see fit."

On the other hand, Boyega also expressed his dislikes within the fandom, admitting that he doesn't like "the conflict between ships." "I think it's the most stupid thing in the world," he added.

"This is Star Wars. It's a big universe," Boyega said. He pointed out that someone who ships Reylo could still support the relationship between Finn and Poe, or even Poe and Rey's. The actor then said that we should all just "have fun" because it's "Star Wars, you know?"

"The conflict is when I'm like, all right, ‘Let's calm down,'" he added. "This is Star Wars, not Tribal Wars!"

Of course, not everyone would agree with Boyega's statement. That being said, all these people love Star Wars for a reason. And while there are things fans don't necessarily agree with, it's a good reminder that the fans should have fun with it and celebrate what they love about the Star Wars universe.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker hits theaters on December 20.
