The Batman Composer Teases Matt Reeves' 'Fresh' Take on the Dark Knight

Production for Matt Reeves' The Batman is halted due to the coronavirus pandemic but updates and teases about the upcoming movie keep coming. The film is still shrouded in mystery in terms of comic book inspirations and storylines. That said, the director has pointed out that it won't be an origin story. Now, Michael Giacchino, the movie's composer, teased a "fresh" take on the Dark Knight.

"I do love it," Giacchino told Collider. "I think what he's doing is really cool, and it's different and it feels fresh. In the way that I get excited when I see a new graphic novel or a comic book coming out with a new take on it. It feels like that."

Though he didn't go further into detail about Reeves' "fresh" take for Robert Pattinson's Batman, Giacchino talked about the freedom of being able to do what it takes to capture their vision.

"I felt total freedom to do whatever I want," he said. "Matt always agreed, this is our Batman, this is our vision." Giacchino then pointed out that what he loves about Batman comics is every author has their own version of the character, taking their "own crack" of what they want it to be, making it their own unique version of the Dark Knight. This is why he loves that Reeves is going with this approach as well.

"I love it when I see a graphic novel of Batman in the 1800s. To me that is cool. I love that," he added. "I'm not the kind of person that says Batman must always be this. It's like no, why? It can be whatever the artist wants to be and it has over the years done that, many times over." Giacchino then reiterated that he "loves" the idea of being able to take something and make their own version of it.

As mentioned, The Batman won't be an origin story but it'll contain a number of influences. Fans have speculated that it'll be heavily inspired by The Long Halloween, but it might just be one of the many things Reeves will incorporate into his film. Needless to say, fans are excited to see his "fresh" take on the Caped Crusader and Pattison's portrayal of the iconic character.

The Batman is set for release on June 25, 2021.
