That 'Disappointing' Game of Thrones Finale Leak Is George R.R. Martin's Planned Ending For the Books Too

Game of Thrones fans think that showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff dropped the ball with all the odd decisions they made in Season 8. But how much of it comes from A Series of Ice and Fire writer George R.R. Martin?

The final season has so far been very disappointing to majority of fans. If the finale leaks are accurate, which they have been so far, a lot of viewers are in for what some are calling the worst TV endings in history.

One of the things fans think is the problem with is that the duo cannot tell a story by themselves with no source material to pull from. After all, Martin is yet to complete the books, so the two are only working with the outlines of his planned ending with assistance from the author.

In a 60 Minutes interview last month, Martin said that except for some changes with some secondary characters, the ending he has in mind isn't all that different from that of the Weiss and Benioff's.

"I don't think Dan and Dave's ending is different from my ending because of the conversations we did have," he reveals to Anderson Cooper during the interview. He even expects a debate within the community.

"I think a lot of people who say, 'Oh Dan and Dave's ending is better than the one George gave us. Good thing they changed it.' And there will be a lot of people who will say, 'No Dan and Dave got it wrong. George's ending is better," he said. And they will fight on the internet," he went on to say.

From what he said, it would seem that much of what happens by the end of Game of Thrones Season 8 will also happen in the books. It would seem that the changes he mentioned may not have a major impact on the actual ending.

Martin won't mind the intense discussions that will likely ensue after Game of Thrones wraps up and when he eventually publishes the final book in the series. "You know, the worse thing for any work of art be it a movie or a book is to be ignored," he concluded.
