Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker Reportedly Recasting [SPOILERS] For Special Sequence

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is reportedly going to recast and use some computer-generated magic to bring back a younger version of an original trilogy character.

According to Making Star Wars, the film will feature a flashback sequence where the young Luke and Leia from after the events of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. Carrie Fisher's daughter Billie Lourd, who plays the role of Connix in the sequel trilogy, will reportedly be a stand-in for the princess in this specific scene. CGI will then be used in post the same way it was used to recreate the A New Hope scene in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Mark Hamill might be de-aged for the scene.

This isn't the first time it was rumored that Lourd will play a young Princess Leia in the new Star Wars films. The same reports were around before The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi. However, this new rumor comes from more credible sources that include Pinewood Studios filmmakers who are "involved, associated, and near the production."

The Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker scene featuring young Leia and Luke will reportedly take place in the first act and is meant to play with the perspective of fans on the events of the trilogy.

Making Star Wars speculates that the scene might be the long-awaited explanation as to why Leia didn't set out to become a Jedi like Luke, a mystery that has always plagued fans and the films never really dug deeper into.

The site posits that the two may have agreed it was best for Leia not to pursue it after a premonition or vision that they see, which is in the same vein as Luke and Kylo Ren's in The Last Jedi. That being said, the Skywalker twins may have misread the vision, which inadvertently ends up causing the same thing they were preventing.

What could that be? Making Star Wars says it might be about Leia's decision to pursue a role in the Resistance as a general, which ultimately takes her away from being a mother to Ben.
