The Rise of Skywalker is set for release in less than a few weeks from now. Star Wars fans, or Reylo shippers in that matter, are excited to see if the relationship between Daisy Ridley's Rey and Adam Driver's Kylo Ren would go even further in the upcoming movie. And now, director J.J. Abrams gives us a tease for the characters' potential romantic relationship.

In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Abrams details the relationship between the two and whether or not we'd actually see a certain love story that'll develop amidst battles and conflicts in the film. The director claims that both of them got stronger. And since they grew much stronger, so did their "adversary."

Abrams said Rey and Kylo are connected in a "profound way." They are "drawn to each other," and are "curious" yet "knowledgeable about each other" as well.

"They also are, by definition, working on opposite side of things," the director added. And Abrams admits that the "dichotomy" of both these characters is what's "fascinating" for him the most.

Judging from Abrams' comments, it's clear that the director is swaying from having a direct response regarding Kylo Ren and Rey's potential romantic relationship. That being said, he did debunk one popular fan theory regarding the two, which involved the Red Thread of Fate derived from an East Asian legend.

For now, there's no telling what fate lies ahead for the two. Whether or not they'll develop a romantic bond, we could only wait for an answer when The Rise of Skywalker hits theaters on December 20.
