Baby Yoda has captured the hearts of many Star Wars fans from the moment he was introduced in the first episode of The Mandalorian. The Child has become very popular because of its adorable looks and though the general public finds the character cute, actor Werner Herzog doesn’t think so.

In a new profile from the New York Times, Herzog, who plays The Client on the show, admits that he doesn’t find Baby Yoda adorable. “No, not cute,” he said. “It was a phenomenal achievement of sculpting mechanically. When I saw this, it was so convincing, it was so unique.”

When the producers talked about making The Child completely digital, the actor said to them that it would be “cowardly.” He considers them as “trailblazers,” so they should show the world what they can do.

Since he doesn’t find Baby Yoda cute, what Herzog really thinks about him is something completely unexpected and different from what the fans would think of. “Not cute. It’s heartbreaking,” he said. “My wife has seen companion robots that are being created.”

“A fluffy creature with big eyes talking to you, reading your facial expressions, putting its head to the side and asking you, ‘Oh, you don’t trust me?’” Herzog continued. “There’s big stuff coming at us in terms of robotics.”

Herzog also mentioned this in a previous interview, saying that Baby Yoda was “heartbreakingly beautiful.” He doesn’t know why he describes it like that but seeing the puppet on set was “absolutely convincing” and that it’ll make you cry when you see it.

Expect more of the Child in the second season of The Mandalorian, especially since the first season finale might have hinted into Din Djarin’s journey of finding the creature’s homeworld.

Star Wars: The Mandalorian season two is expected to be released this October on Disney+.
