The first season of Star Trek: Picard is nearing its end and things are heating up as seen in the first part of the finale. And as the season comes to a close, Picard brings back yet another familiar face.

This article contains SPOILERS for the ninth episode of Star Trek: Picard.

Star Trek brings back actor Brent Spiner once again but he's playing a different character this time. He didn't return as Data in Picard, instead, he's playing the role of Alton Inigo Soong, the son of Data's creator, Dr. Noonien Soong.

As Star Trek fans may very well know, this has been a recurring thing for the actor. He played Data for seven seasons in The Next Generation, he also played Arik Soong in Enterprise and played Soong with old man makeup and Data's evil brother Lore in the "Brothers" TNG episode.

"Et in Arcadia Ego, Part 1" reveals Spiner's Alton Soong is the aging child of Data's creator and has been living with advanced androids that he actually created with Bruce Maddox. Not much is revealed about the character, but this shows that Maddox achieving his goals was referring to collaborating on such work with Alton.

The androids they built were just as sophisticated as Data. Living in Coppelius, it is seen as a paradise for its inhabitants, but it could be in trouble with the Romulans on their way. Soong is always looking for ways to cheat mortality but it seems like he hasn't been preparing much for a Romulan attack. Though he has made Picard and the team as a prisoner, he might ask them for some help soon enough.

New episodes of Star Trek: Picard air Thursdays on CBS All Access.
