Sony's Spider-Man Marvel Movie Universe Gets New Official Name

It is known that Sony and Marvel Studios currently share the rights to Spider-Man, as a result of a new deal from last year. As Sony's Spider-Man universe continues to grow and has the potential to include more characters related to the wall-crawler, it's only appropriate to create an official name for it, which the studio just recently revealed.

In a recent post from the official Spider-Man movies Twiter account, the universe that encompasses Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, and Tom Holland's version of the character is referred to as the "Spider-Man Universe of Characters."

However, there might have been a bit of confusion, with IGN later confirming with the studio that it's actually called "Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters." For others, it might not be something that easily rolls off the tongue, but it does directly represent what the movies are all about. Not only does it refer to the Spider-Man related characters, but Marvel characters as a whole. This gives the studio a way to include other characters aside from Spider-Man villains and such.

Fans are looking forward to seeing characters such as Kraven the Hunter, Madame Web, Spider-Woman, and the Sinister Six. However, the debut of these characters in the future is still unclear.

In the meantime, fans can look forward to Sony's three planned movies, though they have all been delayed from their original release dates due to the coronavirus pandemic: Jared Leto's Morbius is currently set for release in March 2021, followed by Venom: Let There Be Carnage in June, and Spider-Man 3 on November 5, 2021.
