Simu Liu is set to play the lead role in Marvel's Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. A lot of fans are looking forward to his portrayal of the character and what's to come in the film, but a recent "announcement" from the actor got the fans quite shocked.

Liu recently took to Twitter to share that he's "extremely saddened" to tell fans that he has "parted ways" with Marvel as an April Fools' joke. Of course, the actor knows that not everyone is in the mood for such a surprising joke given the situation with the coronavirus pandemic, which is why he stopped the joke mid-sentence. He then wrote that he's "canceling" April Fools'. You can check out his tweet below.

Rest assured, Liu will still play the role of Shang-Chi in the upcoming movie and made it clear that the job has been "literally everything" he has ever dreamed of and more. "I would do it for free," Liu wrote, so fans shouldn't worry.

Exits from Marvel projects due to creative differences have been quite common with the directors in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Luckily, Liu wasn't seriously making his exit from the upcoming movie and even made a point with his tweet to know that it wouldn't be appropriate to joke about something serious considering what's happening with the world.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is set to hit theaters on February 12, 2021.
