While Robert Pattinson's background shows the actor has serious range, it initially came as a surprise to some when word broke out that he'll be the new Dark Knight for Matt Reeves' The Batman. The actor has taken on roles outside his comfort zone, but a superhero movie wasn't quite expected. That said, it looks like Pattinson is committed to the part, even crediting some Marvel stars as his inspiration for taking on the role.

In a recent interview with Healthy for Men magazine (via Twitter user RPat360), Pattinson opened up about what led to his decision to play Bruce Wayne on the big screen. "In every project I've ever taken on, I've come into it wanting to learn and achieve new things," he said. "That's usually in the embodiment of a character, and someone who has a different personality to me." However, the actor pointed out that "taking on a full physical transformation" is even more "exciting" for him.

Pattinson admitted that he was hesitant at first, but went on to name a few actors who have portrayed superhero roles as his inspiration to take on the part. "Any actor will go through periods where they'll hesitate and question whether they can live up to a character in a script, or the expectations that go with it," he added. "You look at the true warriors of the superhero genre -- Hemsworth, The Rock, Downey Jr, Evans -- and wonder if you're putting yourself in the wrong place." That said, the actor revealed he has spoken to a "few," pointing out that everyone is actually "nervous," especially when the "opportunity comes about."

Pattinson clearly recognizes the industry he's stepping into and the things that go along with taking on such an iconic role. With the photos and clips Reeves has released in the past as well as the set photos that surfaced a while ago, to the fans' delight, the movie is looking promising so far.

The Batman is set for release on October 1, 2021.
