There's only a few weeks until the release of The Rise of Skywalker but some Star Wars fans can't seem to get over Rian Johnson's The Last Jedi movie. Ever since it's release 2 years ago, the director received quite a backlash about the movie. But now, he has a firm response to everyone who hated TLJ.
In a screening for his new movie Knives Out, he was joined by actor Chris Evans at the WIRED25 conference on Saturday night. The topic about his Star Wars movie always doesn't get left out in interviews. At the screening, he revealed that he's had mostly positive reactions but he claims that "if someone is responding to diversity negatively, fuck ‘em."
He thinks that not liking the film doesn't immediately equate to not liking the diverse cast. He claims that fighting over how the story should go is just a part of the culture of the Star Wars franchise.
He revealed that 95 percent of his interactions on Twitter are "absolutely lovely and constructive and wonderful." But he admits that he still does hear negativity. That being said, he thinks that Star Wars fans are "the best fans in the world." The director even left a metaphorical message saying that the fandom should "take a stand" when they are defined "by a very small slice" which doesn't "represent the lion's share."
Of course, it is inevitable to get negative criticisms in everything one does. And as for Johnson who made The Last Jedi the most inclusive Star Wars movie yet, some fans of the franchise think the opposite which resulted in the movie to be very divisive amongst the viewers.
