Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige recently answered questions from fans about the past, present, and future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. One of the things he revealed is the interesting new form that Hulk takes in Avengers: Endgame.
In the film, Banner and Hulk found a way to co-exist instead of letting one or the other to be the driver. The result is a balance of both. While a lot of fans have been calling this version Professor Hulk, as he is called in the comic books, he actually has a different name in the MCU--Smart Hulk.
Feige made the revelation during a Reddit AMAA when he was asked if Hulk thought about bringing back the snapped creatures to a safe place when he wielded the gauntlet. After all, some people may have been aboard an airplane or in the middle of a road when they turned to ash so they might have instantly died for good the second they were resurrected.
"We refer to the version of Hulk in Endgame as Smart Hulk," the Marvel honcho said, "So, yes," he confirmed. While this might be the first time a lot of fans are hearing the name, it isn't exactly secret to moviegoers who used assistive captioning glasses to watch the film.
Feige also talked more about character, specifically the ideas that Mark Ruffalo pitched. "Many years ago, Mark came in for a meeting with us at Marvel Studios to discuss ways in which the Hulk could grow and evolve in upcoming films," the Marvel boss wrote.
"He pitched a lot of cool ideas, some of which led to what you saw in Thor: Ragnarok, Infinity War and Endgame, and some of which would still be cool to see someday," he went on to say. Unfortunately, he didn't get into detail about it.
Either way, his statement suggests that Ruffalo will be back as Hulk in the MCU. Whether or not his Smart Hulk version will last remains to be seen though. Avengers: Endgame would have been a perfect setup for a much more powerful version known as the Worldbreaker Hulk so this might be on the agenda.
