New Star Trek: Discovery Novel Coming In December

The most recent Star Trek: Discovery novel The Enterprise War was a success among the fans. This was a story that revealed the whereabouts of the Enterprise during Discovery's first season. Along with this success is the ever-growing popularity of the series with which just recently renewed back in February for the third season.

Star Trek: Discovery has been receiving positive feedbacks over the last 5 novel installments released, and fans have been anticipating what's to come in the following ones.

The sixth Star Trek: Discovery novel titled Star Trek: Discovery: Dead Endless is said to be released this December, and is written by David Galanter. Same with all the other novels, the story's focal point would only be one specific character. This time, it's the Starfleet scientist, Paul Stamets, who is an Astromycology expert as well as the inventor of the Discovery's spore drive. Paul Stamets would be played by Anthony Rapp.

The publisher, Simon & Schuster, recently revealed the novel's cover art which features Anthony Rapp as Paul Stamets and Wilson Cruz as Dr. Culber.

The synopsis for the new novel reads:

"The U.S.S. Discovery's specialty is using its spore-based hub drive to jump great distances faster than any warp-faring vessel in Starfleet. To do this, Lieutenant Paul Stamets navigates the ship through the recently revealed mycelial network, a subspace domain Discovery can briefly transit but in which it cannot remain. After responding to a startling distress call originating from within the network, the Discovery crew find themselves trapped in an inescapable realm where they will surely perish unless their missing mycelial fuel is found or restored. Is the seemingly human man found alone and alive inside the network the Starfleet officer he claims to be, or an impostor created by alien intruders who hope to extract themselves from the mycelial plane at the expense of all lives aboard Discovery?"

This novel wouldn't be the first time Stamets' character is actually focused on. His character was also the focal point of the Star Trek: Discovery Annual 2018 comic book. He was also featured in the new Star Trek Online expansion called Awakening where he was the voice of the holographic recreation of Stamets in the 25th century.

The novel's story is said to be similar to that of the Discovery Season 2 episode Saints of Imperfection, which shows Dr. Culber trapped in the mycelial network. However, the novel has a different story from this one as it will be considered an "Original Star Trek Novel."

The novel Star Trek: Discovery: Dead Endless is out on December 17th.
