While its existence is yet to be confirmed by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, the rumored Harry Potter game appears to be happening. Despite the coronavirus pandemic along with author J.K. Rowling's recent controversial comments, the long-rumored game is said to be "very real."

In a report from Bloomberg, the Harry Potter game, which lets players role-play as wizards and explore an open world Hogwarts, is in development at Avalanche Software, a Warner Bros.-owned studio. The game is reportedly set to release late next year on PlayStation 5 as well as on Xbox Series X.

Despite being on track for its release, there's said to be "anxiety" at the studio. Aside from the pandemic, and the possible sale of the WB video game publishing business, there's "fierce backlash against the franchise's creator." The studio is yet to address Rowling's comments, which were viewed as transphobic. However, one person working on the game told the outlet that Rowling has "very little direct involvement" on it.

The game was planned to be announced during a press conference at E3 2020, which was initially set to take place in June. Now, the outlet reveals the company plans to unveil its new Batman game at the August DC FanDome event, which will be followed by the Harry Potter game announcement at a later date. The plans made for the game were allegedly made before Rowling's comments have surfaced.
