Fans have always been anticipating Marvel’s Nova to appear ever since Nova Corps was introduced in the Guardians of the Galaxy back in 2014. Since he didn’t make the cut, fans expected to see him in Avengers: Infinity War or Avengers: Endgame. And as it turns out, Nova almost made the cut but the writers faced a bit of a dilemma for the Richard Rider character.
Endgame writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely spoke with Comic Book regarding Nova’s appearance. We heard a piece of Nova’s origin story when Thanos destroyed Xandar off-screen. But with a handful of heroes already under works for both Markus and McFeely, it was hard to find the balance to make a good introduction for Nova, considering that he’s a fan-favorite.
“We actually had, I remember in the big manifesto thing that we did,” says Markus. He adds, “The first work we did on these movies where we just… every possible storyline that you could take from what’s around, that Nova has the Xandarian Worldmind.” Markus revealed that Nova was supposed to be the “herald” while the Xandarian Worldmind would be the voice of Glenn Close.
But McFeely pointed out that Avengers: Endgame was supposed to “say goodbye to all the ones that you know,” so it was hard to introduce a new character in the movie. Although Markus admits that the thought of having Nova in Endgame “would’ve been amazing.” But there were certain circumstances to consider.
It’s a bummer that Nova hasn’t made his appearance yet because the character doesn’t always make the final cut. However, Nova is a fan-favorite. People have been wanting to see his character, so I think it’ll be much better to introduce him to another movie so he could make a cool and proper introduction.
For now, there’s no telling on where Nova is slated to appear. However, the character has been a part of numerous rumors. Including being featured in the upcoming sequel for Captain Marvel.
