Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is getting a comic book adaptation from writer Jody Houser and artist Will Sliney. Set to arrive in June, the five-issue miniseries will bring elements from the film as well as new story material. However, it seems like the series will have to wait for another day.
According to Bleeding Cool, their sources revealed that Marvel Comics will no longer be publishing the said series. The outlet didn't go further into specifics as to why the miniseries have been canceled though.
The Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker adaptation wasn't the first of these series solicited before the pandemic that hasn't been or will not be released soon. However, given the situation with the coronavirus pandemic, it makes sense to cancel it as a series.
While this may be unfortunate news to those who have been waiting for its debut, Marvel Comics could possibly be reserving the series' drop in a later date when it could it'll sell better. That said, this has yet to be confirmed by Marvel, so it's best to take this report with a grain of salt.
Hopefully, fans could get to see those new lines and scenes that were left on the cutting room floor soon enough!
