Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker wrapped up the epic Skywalker Saga along with Mark Hamill's portrayal of Luke Skywalker. He made his Star Wars debut in 1977's A New Hope, and now, the veteran actor explains why Episode IX officially bids his character farewell.

When asked by Entertainment Weekly whether he'd consider returning to the Star Wars universe, Hamill says, "Oh, I can't imagine that, no." The actor pointed out that he had a "beginning, middle, and end" within the franchise. "Those films gave me far more than I ever expected when we started out so it's never even occurred to me," he added. "My farewell was in Episode IX and it was bittersweet."

"I love all those people and I certainly have affection for George [Lucas] and the character he created," Hamill continued. "I'm full of gratitude for what it has given me and my career but I don't want to be greedy." The actor says there are "many more" stories to be told along with "great actors" to tell them. "They don't need me," Hamill said.

While Hamill has made his final farewell as Luke Skywalker, he is looking forward to the franchise's future, especially with the upcoming Disney+ series. Specifically, he's impressed with what The Mandalorian keeps bringing to the table, saying that it's "smart" for the show to be sort of going "back to the basics."

Totally opposite from his Star Wars role, Hamill will be guest-starring in FX's What We Do in the Shadows as a vampire.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is now streaming on Disney+.
