Lucifer Star Tom Ellis Reacts to Supernatural Cancellation

The unexpected cancellation of Supernatural has the whole fandom quite emotional at the moment, but Lucifer star Tom Ellis is doing his part by sending love to everyone.

The actor called the 15-year run of Supernatural an "amazing achievement," praising the cast for their work. "Not only did you have an incredible run but you did it with such grace, style and humor," he wrote tagging stars Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, Misha Collins, Rob Benedict, and Richard Speight, Jr. "Congratulations and much love," he went on to say, concluding the message with a devil emoji.

Ellis plays the role of Lucifer in an eponymous show renewed by Netflix for a fourth season. On Supernatural, the same character is played by Mark Pellegrino. Many fans of the long-running The CW series seem to be fans of both versions. In fact, some people wished Sam and Dean could have met the Ellis version in an alternate universe. After a Scooby Doo crossover, it became clear that this one was possible.

It doesn't look like it is happening though. With the sudden end of Supernatural, however, fans hope that they will still have Lucifer in the years to come. Supernatural is the longest-running science fiction series in American broadcast. For its last season, there will be 20 episodes. This will bump the total number of episodes in the entirety of its decade and a half run to 327.

In an Entertainment Weekly celebrating the 300th episode milestone, the actors seemed very eager to go on. "I don't think we're ready to throw in the towel," Ackles said at the time. "We've still got a little gas in the tank," he continued. In an official statement,executive producers Andrew Dabb and Robert Singer bid their goodbye to Supernatural, saying:

Firstly, we would like to thank all the people who have been involved with the show both in front of and behind the camera. For us it has been an experience of a lifetime. The support we have had from both Warner Bros Television and The CW has been incredible. We'd like to give special thanks to Jensen, Jared and Misha Collins for making this journey so special. It is now most important to us to give these characters that we love the sendoff they deserve.

The final batch of Supernatural episodes will start airing October 12 on The CW. Lucifer, on the other hand, hits Netflix sometime this year.
