Knights of the Old Republic Publisher Reportedly Being Revived By Disney For New Star Wars Games

Many fans have been left disappointed with the Star Wars titles that Electronic Arts has given them, but it looks like Disney is finally making some much-needed changes to improve the video game department of the intergalactic franchise.

Disney started recruiting new team members for Lucasfilm Games. Listings for positions like producer, associate brand art director, and brand marketing coordinator have recently emerged on the Disney Careers website.

Unfortunately, these roles aren't necessarily involved in developing new Star Wars games. They will be more about "managing the review and approval of interactive products" based on Lucasfilm intellectual properties on "digital platforms," which will include PC and Mac as well as current-generation consoles and smartphones.

An interesting description for the brand marketing coordinator teases that the person will "help support the team while working on multiple Star Wars video game titles on console, PC, and mobile."

While these roles will be more about marketing and promotion, there is still reason to believe that Lucasfilm Games may be back in business soon. Disney appears to have been trying to resurrect the company for quite a while.

Back in 2017, the company was recruiting a creative staff that would be responsible in creating new Star Wars titles. They were searching for a technical artist, engineering manager, producer, community manager, and a lead game designer have been posted. The fact that two years later, they now have the need for people who will help support and get the word out on projects suggest that they may have something new to promote.

Lucasfilm Games, which was established in 1982 and renamed LucasArts eight years later, is responsible for some of the most iconic games based in the galaxy far, far away.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is one of them and it still gets a lot of love today. When the Mouse House acquired the franchise, it stripped the division of the development responsibilities and only kept it open as a licensor.

Electronic Arts was then chosen for the main development of Star Wars games, but the fact that the company has only come out with only two titles in six years has many fans hoping that it will pass the torch to another company that will do a better job.

So it would definitely make a lot of gamers happy if Disney were to bring it back to the fold for their future Star Wars video game efforts.
