Ever since the release of the first trailer for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, fans could not help but wonder over the mysterious return of Emperor Palpatine. The familiar laugh of the villain heard in the trailer has been the source of various rumors and theories since then.

The return of the infamous Darth Sidious has been the talks of multiple reports and Redditors. Finding the best possible way to explain just how Palpatine could make such an intriguing return after all these years. In a recent post by Redditor AdamDriverIsAwesome, he/she shared a photo of what seems to be a picture he/she took of the Empire Magazine that was just recently released.

The photo shows a statement from Abrams himself regarding the return of the infamous Palpatine. Abrams admits that he knew some people felt that the idea of Palpatine shouldn't even be revisited, and says that he understands that.

It seems like, despite the fans' criticism regarding the previous movies' disconnecting plot lines, Abrams begs to differ. "But if you're looking at these nine films as one story, I don't know many books where the last few chapters have nothing to do with those that have come before," Abrams argues.

It seems like Abrams thinks that it's all coming into place, saying, "if you look at the first eight films, all the set-ups of what we're doing in IX are there in plain view." The director seems to be pointing out the fact that it's actually all laid out and that Chapter IX would be a good conclusion for the previous movies.

Obviously, the post garnered a lot of attention and opinion from the fans. Although most of them acknowledge Palpatine's return in The Rise of Skywalker, fans can't help but think about how some characters are displaced or some lines and plots weren't even bothered to be mentioned in the following movies following their first mention.

Evidently, fans expect a lot from Abrams' upcoming movie. Some Redditors mentioned that they believe in Daisy Ridley and John Boyega's previous statement, assuring the fans that the movie will answer everything that needs to be explained effectively especially Palpatine's mysterious return.

Despite the division of opinions, fans ought to come together to witness the epic conclusion of this trilogy in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, premiering on December 20, 2019.
