Set as the leader of Birds of Prey, fans were excited to see Batgirl on the big screen upon the announcement of the movie. Unfortunately, she won't be included in the upcoming film, instead, she is said to have a movie of her own. There hasn't been any word on it since, but it looks Karen Gillan is already interested in the character.

In a recent interview with Omelete, the Guardians of the Galaxy star was asked about the comic character that she would like to play. "Batgirl would be pretty cool," Gillan said. "Yeah, she's a redhead!"

Then, the actress was also asked if she would like to direct a comic book film as well and she mentions the character again. "Batgirl would be pretty cool for that as well. My favorite films in that world are dark, and my favorite one is Dark Knight," she said. "I just love the way that was directed so much so I would love to work in that kind of world as the director."

It's safe to assume that Gillan's comments were just an expression of her desire and excitement to star in and direct a Batgirl movie, and that it isn't necessarily an indication that she will be actually doing it. Barbara Gordon's potential appearance on the big screen is still uncertain, but fans would surely love to see it happen soon.

As for Gillan's future Marvel project, the actress will return as Nebula in the upcoming sequel of Guardians of the Galaxy. She revealed in a previous interview that she has already read the script and thinks it's "amazing." Gillan also thinks that the sequel movie will be the "best of the trilogy."
