It looks like HBO is nearing to close on a pilot order for a Game of Thrones prequel.

According to Headline, George R. R. Martin, GoT's co-executive producer, and Ryan Condal, co-creator of Colony, are working together on a story that shows what led to the downfall of the House Targaryen from the very beginning.

It is set 300 years before the initial story of Game of Thrones that the fans know of. And it is also said to be based on the book Fire & Blood written by Martin himself. It tells a story surrounding the surviving family of dragonlords, the House Targaryen, that ended up on Dragonstone. It also reveals how the family would've remained despite the Doom of Valyria.

The report reveals that apparently, this has been in the works at HBO for quite a while now, ever since last fall.

Although The Hollywood Reporter says that this project won't be the sixth GoT prequel as it's mainly created to be a representation of a "brand new take on a world originally tackled by Bryan Cogman" in a previous GoT prequel script back in 2017.

The book even has the tagline, "300 Years Before a Game of Thrones, Dragons Ruled Westeros". Effectively stating the plotline within the story and shows why this is a "Targaryen history book."

Fire & Blood involves the story of Aegon the Conqueror, who made the Iron Throne. It then continued on with the stories on how the different generations of Targaryens have fought for the throne. The book's story leads all the way to the civil war, the Dance of the Dragons. The civil war is said to be a major part of the TV adaptation.

With this said, fans could assume that the aforementioned characters would appear in this new prequel series. Along with the different dragons that previously ruled the Westeros. And maybe even Aegon's sister-wives Rhaenys and Visenya.

The first prequel, The Age of Heroes, could come into play within this new series as well. Considering that this is set 6000 years before Game of Thrones, it could reveal about Westeros' history and the origins of some of the most mysterious characters like the White Walkers, or the Night King which was the master and the first among the White Walkers.

Hopefully, reports on the casting for this series will be revealed soon. For now, fans are eager to watch GoT's prequel as it is such a huge franchise, which tells us that HBO has a bright future with GoT under their wing.
