When the Star Wars prequel trilogy came out, the films weren’t initially beloved by all the fans. With the movies targeted towards a younger audience than those who have grown up along with the original trilogy, the entries that followed the saga weren’t received entirely positively. Ewan McGregor, who plays the role of Obi-Wan Kenobi, reflects the prequel trilogy’s disappointing reception in a recent interview.

"Our films weren't much liked when they came out, by my generation who loved the first ones,” the actor told Empire. “I think people of our generation wanted to feel the way they'd felt when they saw those first three movies when they were kids, and George [Lucas] wanted to take our ones in a different direction, he had a different idea.”

“It was tricky at the time, I remember,” McGregor added. “But now, all these years later, I'm really aware of what our films meant to the generation they were made for, the children of that time.” The actor pointed out that they “really” liked them. In fact, he has met fans who say that the prequel films meant a lot to them more so than the original trilogy.

McGregor admitted in the same interview that he struggled with the filming process for the films and that he is even more excited to reprise his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi in the new Disney+ series more so than he did for the prequel trilogy. It’s been a “long time coming” after all, with the series set to start shooting in spring.
