Bryan Cogman Of Game Of Thrones Reportedly Leading The Lord Of The Rings Series Adaptation At Amazon

Bryan Cogman's Game of Thrones prequel may have been canceled, but the legendary writer apparently landed what may very well be a much sweeter deal--the television adaptation of The Lord of the Rings.

For some time now, there was word floating around that the Game of Thrones creative genius was cooking up something big with Amazon Studios. Today, the folks over at OneRing.net are reporting that Cogman has been chosen to lead the project.

"All this comes in the wake of the recent departure of Amazon's Executive in charge of fantasy and genre, Sharon Tal Yguado," OneRing.net explained."She ran the LOTR project up to now and was responsible for hiring the showrunners and writers," they continued.

While Cogman's involvement in The Lord of the Rings series adaptation was heavily rumored, it is only this time that it has been reported that he will be leading the biggest and most expensive series for Amazon Studios yet.

In a report by Vanity Fair published last week, it was revealed that the company "snapped him up and put him to work" the day after a historic third win for his work on Game of Thrones in September. At the time, it was reported that he was "consulting on a hotly anticipated project he can't yet disclose."

A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin reiterated the news in his latest blog post about the end of the Game of Thrones TV series, specifying that Cogman is indeed "helping out on their big Tolkien project" in addition to developing his own shows for the studio.

Fans of Cogman will surely be delighted to see him take on another massive project considering how half of the fanbase left disappointed at how Game of Thrones ended at the hands of showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff.

Cogman is also a loremaster with an expansive knowledge of the source material he adapts. He knew the A Song of Ice and Fire books inside and out and was the third creative head for the HBO series. He was responsible for the infamous Ramsay and Sansa scene that proved too much for some viewers. However, some fans fear that he might not do as well as he did because The Lord of the Rings doesn't involve any graphic scenes or nudity.

For now, nothing has been made official yet. However, a lot of fans believe that someone like him will be able to handle a project as big as The Lord of the Rings series adaptation.
