Although the upcoming Black Widow film will be following Natasha Romanoff's backstory, there are also some new characters to be introduced. When the first trailer for the movie came out, fans were surprised and excited to see Red Guardian; not much is known about him yet, but actor David Harbour offers some details to get to know the character more.

In a recent interview with The Wrap, the Stranger Things star talked about what fans would expect from Red Guardian in the upcoming movie. "He's this guy who is closely linked to Natasha back in the day," he said. "I don't think it's been quite revealed how, but I think you can see in the family dynamic that he was a bit of a fatherly figure to her."

As seen in the trailer, Harbour says a number of years have already gone by and he's already "past his prime." This is why the Red Guardian gets back into his superhero outfit, which still fits, but "it's a little tighter than before." The actor thinks that the great thing about his character is that "he was the Captain America of his day for Russia." Harbour revealed that Red Guardian was "the great hope" of the said country "in a certain sense."

The character first appeared in Avengers #43 back in 1967. The Avengers attempt to rescue Black Widow, with the Red Guardian seeing this as an opportunity to prove that he's better than his counterpart.

Needless to say, Marvel fans can't wait to see Harbour's take on the iconic character and are excited to learn more about him in the upcoming film.

Black Widow hits theaters May 1, 2020.
