Birds of Prey Writer Reveals Whether There Will Be DCEU References in the Movie

Birds of Prey would be a really great way to include some references to the DC Extended Universe. While the film is considered to be a fresh take on Harley Quinn, it isn't unlikely that Birds of Prey will have some references here and there, whether subtle or obvious.

"I don't want to spoil too much," writer Christina Hodson told ComicBook at the Birds of Prey press event. She says it is "definitely a standalone movie" and that they have always wanted it to be a story that "feels like its own thing." Although the film will have its own contained story, whether the viewers are fans or brand-new to the universe, they can come in and still "feel perfectly at home."

"As a fan myself, I would like to hopefully list it with some funny threads that people are gonna like, Hodson added. "But yeah, we'll have to wait and see."

Hodson didn't directly reveal whether they'll be Easter eggs present in the movie or not. However, judging from the film's storyline, it is possible that Birds of Prey will at least include somewhat of a reference to the DCEU, especially something that'll involve the Clown Prince of Crime.

On another note, Margot Robbie revealed in a previous interview that the movie will have a "nonlinear aspect" because they were leaning more towards not having a "formulaic sort of structure." That being said, the story will eventually become linear in the third act of the film, and it's "all pretty chronological from there."
